One evening, Abram sat quietly in his tent, thinking about his family and the land. In a vision, God said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield.” Abram told God the worry in his heart: he still had no child and did not know who would receive his household after him. God brought Abram outside and told him to look up at the stars. God promised that Abram’s descendants would be too many to count. Abram believed God’s word, and God counted his faith as righteousness. Later, God told Abram to prepare a special offering. Abram arranged it carefully and guarded it. As the sun went down, Abram fell into a deep sleep. In the vision, a smoking firepot and a bright torch passed between the offering pieces, showing that God Himself was confirming His covenant. Abram woke with peace and returned home, continuing to trust God’s lasting promise.
