Before he died, Jacob gathered his twelve adult sons and spoke about the blessings and warnings that would shape their tribes. He spoke seriously about the consequences of past choices and used poetic words to describe the future of their families. For Judah, he proclaimed royal rule and the obedience of the nations; for Joseph, he declared God’s help and abundant blessing. Finally, Jacob commanded his sons to bury him in the cave of Machpelah in Canaan, then breathed his last and was gathered to his people.
